I was born and raised on Ashley Road so it has always held a place in my heart. In 2014 I began researching the property that I was raised in and that very much spiraled out of control and lead to my researching every single property on Ashley Road! As you can imagine this has been more than 10 years in the making and is somewhat of a never ending task with the ever changing face of Ashley Road! About Ashley Road History BH14 The Story Behind the Project I was born and raised on Ashley Road, so the road and its surroundings have always held a special place in my heart. In 2014, I began researching the history of the property where I grew up. What started as a personal project soon developed into something much bigger, as my curiosity led me to investigate the history of every property along Ashley Road. More than ten years later, that original interest has grown into an extensive collection of property histories, photographs, businesses and stories connected with the road. It has been a fascinating journey of discovery, uncovering details about the buildings, the people who lived and worked in them, and the many changes that have shaped Ashley Road over the years. Of course, Ashley Road is constantly evolving, and there is always something new to discover. This is very much an ongoing project, and there is still plenty of history waiting to be uncovered. My Aim The aim of this website is to create as complete a history of Ashley Road as possible, documenting its properties, businesses and the people connected with them. Much of the research has been gathered over many years, but I know there are gaps to fill, stories yet to be told and details that may have been lost to time. By sharing this work, I hope to encourage others to contribute their own knowledge, memories, photographs and historical information. Whether you remember a long-forgotten shop, have an old family photograph or know something about a particular property, your contribution could help bring another piece of Ashley Road's history to light. Looking to the Future This project may never truly be complete, and perhaps that is part of its appeal.
